Apple announced new Mac mini configurations on August 25, 2026, pairing its compact desktop with either the M6 or M5 Pro processor. The company said pre-orders opened that day and general availability would begin September 22. Both versions add Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5-gigabit Ethernet as standard, with 10-gigabit Ethernet offered as an option.
The M6 model has a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, adding two cores to each compared with the referenced previous configuration. Apple claims the machine delivers up to 40 percent faster CPU performance, twice the graphics performance and as much as four times the AI performance of the M4 Mac mini. Those figures are manufacturer comparisons rather than independent test results. The system starts with 16GB of unified memory, can be configured with 32GB and provides memory bandwidth of up to 170GB per second. A dual 16-core Neural Engine is also claimed to run up to twice as fast as the previous generation.
For more demanding workloads, the M5 Pro configuration scales to an 18-core CPU and 20-core GPU. Apple positions it for software development, video rendering, scientific simulations, 3D work and local AI processing. It supports up to 64GB of unified memory and up to 307GB per second of memory bandwidth. Its GPU includes neural accelerators in each core, an enhanced shader core and third-generation ray tracing.
Connectivity differs between the two models. The M6 version has three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the rear, while the M5 Pro model uses three Thunderbolt 5 ports. Both include HDMI, Ethernet, two front-facing USB-C ports and a headphone jack. Apple also added genlock support over USB-C for synchronizing a display and camera, including an iPhone 17 Pro. The company says Thunderbolt 5 can connect clusters of Mac mini systems for running larger AI models locally.
The computers are intended to ship with macOS 27, named Golden Gate. Apple’s description highlights a new Siri AI experience, broader Apple Intelligence features, automation through Shortcuts and changes to Safari, Photos, Spotlight and the system interface. The announcement did not include independent assessments of those features or the new processors.
Apple also said the new Mac mini is made with 50 percent recycled material overall, including recycled aluminum for the enclosure and recycled rare-earth elements in its magnets. Electricity used for manufacturing is sourced from renewable energy across the supply chain, according to the company. Taken together, the update emphasizes local AI capacity and faster networking while retaining the small desktop format, but its performance and environmental statements remain claims from Apple pending outside evaluation.
