Thai rescuers found a French father and his two young sons alive off Koh Samui on August 14, more than 16 hours after their rented jet ski capsized. The three were exhausted and had swallowed seawater, but they were discharged after medical checks at a local hospital.
The 50-year-old father and the boys, aged five and seven, rented the craft at about 5 p.m. on Thursday, according to local government official Amorn Chomchoey. When they did not return at the agreed time, the rental operator alerted rescuers and authorities, prompting a search using speedboats and additional jet skis.
Crews suspended the operation overnight and resumed it the next morning. They located the family at around 10 a.m. Friday. Video distributed by the Koh Samui district office showed the rented jet ski almost entirely underwater, with only a triangular section at the front remaining above the surface.
One boy was sitting on that exposed section while his father floated close by. Both wore life jackets. Rescue footage showed personnel helping the child onto another vessel and giving the family water. Chomchoey said the three looked pale and were exhausted after ingesting a large amount of seawater, but were otherwise in good condition.
They were taken to a nearby hospital, examined and released soon afterward. The boys' mother and older sister had waited on the beach during the search, according to the BBC account cited by CBS News. The reunited family continued its holiday after the rescue.
